Consumer Representative Vacancies

The Health Consumers' Council assist consumers in contributing their say in the health system, to ensure the health system in Western Australia is patient-orientated.

Below are several advisory groups/boards/committees that are seeking to involve consumers in contributing the broader consumer perspective. Scroll down to view the various opportunities that you as a consumer could participate in.

Breastscreen WA

BreastScreen WA is seeking a Consumer Representative for their Consumer Reference Group. Likely topics of discussion include resources, advertising, strategies to recruit women and relevant issues around breast screening and breast cancer.

Royal Perth Hospital Community Advisory Council (CAC)

Royal Perth Hospital is seeking a Consumer Representative to sit on the above. The CAC provides support and advice to the hospital on the relevant issues in order to improve the hospital experience, primarily for patients, but also for their relatives and other hospital consumers.

The CAC's role is to make recommendations relating to the improvement of services at the Wellington St and Shenton Park Campuses.

RPH is seeking people who have:
- A commitment to quality improvement in health services
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment with energy and enthusiasm
- Ability to identify issues impacting on the service delivery provided by RPH
- Ability to attend meetings on a regular basis
- Have been or may be a consumer of RPH services (not necessarily as a patient of the hospital but as a consumer of any of the services, including visiting, collaborating, referring or accepting patients)
Members will be selected to promote diversity. People representing these groups are strongly encouraged to apply: disability, chronic illness, culturally and linguistically diverse, Aboriginal, rural and remote areas, Hospital in the Home or other community services.


The CAC meets for approximately 2 hours once a month, at midday on the second Monday of each month. Meetings are held at RPH Wellington St Campus. Attending additional meetings or a few hours of work each month to review or prepare material will also be required.
CAC members, as RPH volunteers, will have access to relevant hospital education programmes.
Remuneration for consumer representatives is available for out of pocket expenses as per the Dept of Health guidelines for volunteers.

Western Australian Association for Mental Health

WAAMH is seeking a Consumer Representative to sit on their Board. Please contact Health Consumer’s Council for further information on this position.
NB Applicants need to be prepared to commit to serve on the Board for a period of at least two years.

Meetings are held at 9.30 am on the third Thursday of the month at City West Lotteries House, 2 Delhi Street, West Perth
