The Health Consumers' Council assist consumers in contributing their say in the health system, to ensure the health system in Western Australia is patient-orientated.

Mercy Hospital Mount Lawley - Safety, Quality and Risk Management Committee

Mercy Hospital Mount Lawley is seeking a consumer representative for their Safety, Quality and Risk Management Committee.  The role of the consumer representative is to support the hospital in maintaining a customer focused approach to service delivery as well as a consumer perspective on hospital safety, quality and risk management issues.

Committee meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 8.30 am to 10.30 am.

Human Research Ethics Committee

The Office of Research and Development at Curtin University of Technology has requested assistance from HCC in nominating a female consumer representative/lay representative for this Committee.

Purpose: The role of the consumer representative/lay representative is to provide the consumer perspective on research involving humans conducted by staff and students of the university.

Note:The meeting schedule for this committee is every first Tuesday of the month from 3 pm to 5 pm.

UWA Research Project: Asthma Treatment

Purpose of Project: A new patient asthma card and new guidelines on the supply of reliever medications to patients with asthma have been developed.

Role of Consumer: Evaluating information to ensure information is consumer friendly.

Commitment requirement: Consumer will need to take part in stakeholder meeting on Monday the 16th August at 5pm in the MCS (Molecular and Chemical Sciences) boardroom at the UWA Crawley campus.

Consumers with asthma are strongly encouraged to consider and put in their expression of interest for the above project.

UWA Research Project: The Development of a New Emergency Contraception Patient Checklist

Purpose of Project: Community pharmacists will use this checklist when evaluating the appropriateness of supply of emergency contraception. Patient’s fill in the details and then pharmacists make an assessment regarding the patient’s medication and counselling requirements.

Role of Consumer: Evaluating questions on this checklist to ensure questions are consumer friendly.

Commitment requirement: Consumer will need to take part in stakeholder meeting on Monday 30 August, 2 pm at Boardroom of the Pharmaceutical Council, 21 Hamilton Street, Subiaco WA 6008

Female consumers aged between 18 and 30 years who has accessed emergency contraception previously are strongly encouraged to consider and put in their expression of interest for the above project.

Bethesda Hospital: Safety and Quality Committee

Bethesda Hospital is a medium acuity acute private hospital that provides surgical services.  There is also a palliative care inpatient service where there is a strong volunteer involvement and a large emphasis on multidisciplinary family approach. The Safety and Quality Committee is seeking a consumer representative to assist in enhancing the patient’s experience during their care.

The Group meets bimonthly for 1.5 hours and their next meeting would be sometime end September (to be confirmed).

Gynaecological Cancer Working Group

The Health Consumers’ Council has been requested to nominate a Consumer Representative for appointment on the WA Gynaecological Cancers Project Reference Group.

Purpose: The role of this committee is to provide expert advice to the WA Cancer & Palliative Care Network in support of the Gynaecological Cancers Workforce Initiative on issues relating to women with gynaecological cancers.

Note:The group is seeking a female consumer who has prior experience and knowledge in gynaecological cancer and relevant services provided in the health system.

Non- Communicable Disease Cluster Guidelines Working Group

The Health Consumers’ Council has been requested to nominate a Consumer Representative for appointment on the Non-Communicable Disease Cluster Guidelines Working Group. Those interested in Public Health Promotion as well as possessing good communication skills should consider putting in an Expression of Interest for this role.

Purpose: The role of this group is to determine how cancer cluster inquires will be investigated in the future to ensure that information is provided to the public in an effective and efficient manner.

Meeting schedule:The first meeting for this group will take place on Monday 18 January at 2 pm to 3 pm, 3/C Function Room, Department of Health 189 Royal Street East Perth.

University of Western Australia: Endometrial Cancer Research Project

The School of Population Health at The University of Western Australia is developing a project which focuses on early life and lifestyle impacts on the risk of developing endometrial cancer in adult women. This project involves a combination of questionnaire/survey and WA Department of Health Cancer Registry data.

The project team are interested to involve a female consumer aged 40 to 60 years of age to provide a consumer perspective on various aspect of the project such as result interpretation and information dissemination at the end of the project.

Mount Private Hospital Quality and Risk Management Committee

Mount Private Hospital has requested assistance from HCC in nominating a consumer representative for this Committee. The role of the consumer representative is to support the hospital in maintaining a customer focused approach to service delivery as well as provide a consumer perspective on hospital activities, changes, services, information materials.

The next meeting for this committee will take place on Thursday 15 July from 1 pm to 4 pm.
