Louise spoke to Cynthia about several aspects of health consumerism, in particular those concerning people coming to Australia from diverse cultural backgrounds. This included:

  • Some cultural and language barriers people may face in health care
  • How these can potentially impact of effective service delivery and patient care
  • Workshops that HCC runs with the aim of educating providers and health consumers from CaLD backgrounds
  • What some rights and responsibilities in health care are and why it’s important to know about them
  • The impact of our culture on our delivery of healthcare and also how we receive it
