Stakeholder consultation for Clinical Safety Review 18 of My Health Record – Closing date 21 June 2019

1 x consumer representative opportunity for a person experienced with using My Health Record 

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (the Commission) is engaged by the Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) to undertake the My Health Record Clinical Safety Program. As part of this program the Commission undertakes clinical safety reviews (CSRs) of the My Health Record system.

The Commission is consequently conducting a review to identify best practice reporting channels for healthcare providers to report My Health Record issues to the Agency. Clinical Safety Review 18 aims to inform the design and implementation of a robust and transparent process for healthcare providers to report issues related to MHR to the Agency by:

  • examining current and best practice incident reporting systems implemented in local and international healthcare systems and other industries
  • identifying practical and feasible options for a standardised process that can be sustainably implemented across the range of healthcare settings using the MHR System.

As part of this review, the Commission and HealthConsult are seeking to engage with a consumer representative experienced with interacting with their My Health Record to understand the consumer perspective on how issues with My Health Record should be dealt with by healthcare providers. Issues may include errors, such as information identified as not belonging to the MHR owner or issues with functionality that effect healthcare providers’ ability to utilise the MHR system to its full extent, such as an unexpected display of information, or an access issue.  The interview will also explore how consumers should be involved in the reporting process, and any potential barriers and challenges to implementing a new process.

The work will consist of a 45 minute interview via teleconference at a mutually convenient time in June 2019.  Please note that HealthConsult will pay sitting fees at remuneration tribunal rates for this work.

Child and Adolescent Health Service Board Safety and Quality Committee – closing date 15 June, 4pm

Consumer representatives for the CAHS Board’s Safety and Quality Committee

The Child and Adolescent Health Service Board is looking for keen and committed consumer representatives to participate in the Board’s Safety and Quality Committee.

The role of the Board and Board committees

The role of the Board and its committees is to have oversight of CAHS’ activities, ensuring that CAHS achieves its strategic aims to deliver ‘healthy kids, healthy communities’.

The role of the Safety and Quality Committee is to foster safety and quality in patient care across CAHS. It does this by monitoring and advising on matters relating to safety and quality, such as improving the experience of patient care, reducing variation in clinical care, improving patient outcomes.

The role of the consumer representative

The Board is seeking a consumer representative who is able to:

  1. Understand the role of the Board in governing the Child and Adolescent Health Service
  2. Participate in bi-monthly meetings, bringing a consumer perspective to matters raised in the Committee
  3. Have well developed communication skills
  4. Respect diversity
  5. Understand, commit to and maintain confidentiality

The commitment is to attend every 2 months. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 9 July from 8am – 10am. A consumer participation payment is payable in line with the CAHS policy.

Mental Health Tribunal – two community representative positions – closing date 21 June 2019

The Mental Health Tribunal Western Australia is an independent statutory tribunal established under the Mental Health Act 2014 (WA). The Tribunal’s primary role is to safeguard the rights of involuntary patients receiving psychiatric treatment without informed consent in Western Australia. The Tribunal reviews every involuntary treatment order in Western Australia shortly after it is made, and then every three months thereafter. The Tribunal also determines a range of other applications, including applications to administer electroconvulsive therapy and psychosurgery.

The positions
The Mental Health Tribunal Western Australia is seeking expressions of interest to fill a total of 6 full-time (or an equivalent number of part-time) positions as Legal Members, Psychiatrist Members and Community Members. Members may be appointed on a full-time or part-time basis, with those appointed on a part-time basis having fixed schedules. The Tribunal will also consider appointing sessional Psychiatrist Members, particularly Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, to supplement areas of operational need. Sessional members are paid a casual rate to work only as required.

Members of the Tribunal hold statutory office and are appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Minister for Mental Health for a term of up to five years, on the terms and conditions of appointment determined by the Minister. Members are not employees within the meaning of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 (WA).
