Outcomes for healthy weight services and programs – consultation

Health Consumers’ Council (HCC) is working with the WA Department of Health, the WA Primary Health Alliance and Curtin University on a project that is looking at how to measure the quality and outcomes of health services relating to weight management programs.

We believe it’s very important to ensure there is a good understanding of what is important to people who might use these services – consumers and people with first-hand experience.

HCC is hosting two workshops in May. The workshops will cover the same content and are for people with experience of overweight or obesity. One of the workshops has a more focused target audience. Places at both workshops are limited to enable time for plenty of discussion. To register your interest for one of the workshops please email to confirm which session you’d like to register for.

Workshop details

Workshop 1 – Wednesday 12 May, 9.30am – 11.30am online

This is a targeted invitation for people with experience of being impacted by severe obesity, or living in a much larger body and with experience of weight-related programs and services

In the consumer engagement work we’ve done so far, we’ve heard that it can sometimes be difficult for people living in much larger bodies to have their voices heard in the health system, and that their experience can be quite different to other people when accessing health services. So this session is a targeted invitation to people with first-hand experience of living in a much larger body, either now, or in the past. This might mean that you have been diagnosed with severe obesity, but equally you may not have received a formal diagnosis. From other feedback we’ve received as part of this process, we recognise that some people may feel more comfortable sharing questions and concerns with those in similar circumstances and so we’re holding this session to create a safe place for open discussion.

The core content we’ll be discussing is the same as the other workshop we are running on this topic so if this is your experience and you’d prefer to attend the other workshop that is no problem.

This is a general invitation for people with experience of overweight or obesity and experience with weight-related programs and services.

Participant information

Because these workshops are part of a research project at Curtin University, there is some additional information for you to read to confirm you are happy for your feedback to be used in this way. The information is largely the same for each session – the only difference is whether people are attending face to face or online. Once your registration is confirmed we will send you an information sheet which you will need to sign to confirm you’re happy for your feedback to be used in this way.
