The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) is seeking a consumer representative to provide a consumer perspective for matters relating to radiation oncology and to assist the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee. RANZCR) is a professional organisation for clinical radiologists and radiation oncologists in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.  RANZCR provides the educational curricula for medical graduates training to enter the specialties, accreditation for overseas-trained specialists, and a continuing professional development program for members.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) is seeking a consumer representative to provide a consumer perspective for matters relating to radiation oncology and to assist the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee.

The consumer representative will:

  • Assist the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee in recognising key issues of importance for consumers and identifying priorities.
  • Support the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee in advocacy activities by providing views from the consumer community, especially issues related to service provision, radiation oncology resources and infrastructure, and access to radiation oncology services.
  • Assist the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee in developing networks with other consumer organisations and relevant stakeholders.
  • Enable the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee to access a broader community network with which to consult regularly and advise about effective and appropriate methods of consultation.
  • Promote the benefits of radiation therapy and the role of the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee to the consumer community, via community newsletters, presentations to community groups and through the press/media.
  • Provide or review information about radiation oncology for the consumer community.
  • Review documents/reports developed by the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee, or its member organisations, as required.
  • Provide support, mentoring and training to other radiation therapy consumers as appropriate.
  • Participate in meetings (in person or via teleconference) of the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee and workshops/events organised by the Committee and/or its member organisations.

The consumer representative will be appointed by the Radiation Oncology Tripartite Committee for a two-year term, subject to a review at the end of the first 12 months. The work will commence on 20 August and consist of three meetings a year.  Meetings will either be face to face in Sydney or via teleconferences.  The first teleconference will take place on 31 August.

The committee membership will include the Chief Executive Officers and Presidents/representatives from The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), Australian Society for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT), Australasian College of Physicists and Scientists in Medicine (ACPSEM), the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia (CNSA) and a consumer representative.

Please note, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists will cover both travel and sitting fees at remuneration tribunal rates for this work.
